The number of studies about auxiliary verbs in Turkish has increased recently. In spite of the increase in the number of the studies, there is a gap in the meaning, structural and functional sides of auxiliary verbs. Studies on traditional descriptive approach presented with common grammar understanding focus on structural side of auxiliary verb. Especially, grammar knowledge, dealing with auxiliary verbs under compound verbs but evaluating it as a kind of verb in structural side, should revise itself. Because assessing language elements in single side in language stated as a functional system, causes problems in teaching and learning process. Functional elements are compounded ones in Turkish as an agglutinative language. The functional elements presenting each existence by combining with words having fundamental language presence remain properly to the Turkish language system. The functional element which does not exist in its actual structure but necessary for answering the new requirements, are out of the Turkish language system. In this article, auxiliary verbs of Turkish are examined in view of structure, meaning and function features. Firstly, Turkish grammar of description of verbs is emphasized and then auxiliary verbs. At historical periods of Turkish using auxiliary verbs are added to a list and is emphasized to function issue after determining of all auxiliary verbs’ meaning, structure and function features and tried to determine in place of Turkish grammar. Auxiliary verbs is a verb that is finite in auxiliary verb in Turkish and they are sentences that are verbs as characteristics, but derivational morpheme as function that is far from its feature. They make sentence in terms of their structure, and make word in terms of their function. It is not enough to understand the logic of the derivational morpheme in Turkish from the event of compound word in the structures with derivational morpheme. Because of making function, these structures need an arrangement in both their classifying and their location in grammar. By the aim of contributing to the people who are interested in the subject and to the field, this study is done and is provided to the scientists’ interest.
