The mismanagement of the treatment of functional deficiencies of what is perhaps the third most important sphincteric mechanism in the body in everyday life is discussed. The particular role of adenoidectomy in this mismanagement is stressed. A rational approach to this problem is suggested, and the basically satisfactory results of the treatment of 25 cases along the suggested lines are reviewed.
