The First Eight Years of the Rural Sociology New Series (1998 - 2005) - Broadening the Concept

Treću fazu izlaženja časopisa Sociologija sela kao nove serije na kraju 20.i početku 21. stoljeća (1998.-2005.), autor izlaže u pet cjelina. Prvi dio čini pregleddruštveno-ekonomskog konteksta: kristalizacija promjena i problema u agrarnoji društvenoj strukturi Hrvatske izazvanih privatizacijom utemeljenom na doktrinineoliberalističkog kapitalizma, koncepcijom refeudalizacije u selu i poljoprivredi, teposljedicama rata, s intenzivnim raslojavanjem i 40-postotnim padom poljoprivredneproizvodnje u odnosu na 1988. i 1989. godinu. U drugome dijelu prikazani su kriza iimplozija najstarije hrvatske infrastrukturne jedinice ruralnosociologijskih istraživanja,te dva znanstvenoistraživačka projekta o hrvatskome selu u tranziciji, mreži naseljai umreženom društvu u Hrvatskoj izvedena u Institutu za društvena istraživanja uZagrebu (IDIZ). Predmet trećeg dijela je logistika časopisa. Prekid financiranjasustavnih ruralnosociologijskih istraživanja u zadnjem desetljeću 20. stoljeća izazvaoje konačni egzodus istraživača, što je s dezintegracijom užeg jezgra zagrebačkeruralnosociologijske škole posljedično dovelo do gašenja institucionalnog osloncačasopisa kao periodične znanstvene publikacije iz ruralne sociologije. Plaćena jenajskuplja cijena pogrešne znanstvene politike: straćen najkvalitetniji ljudski resursi izgubljena djelatnost. Istraživački timovi iz drugih disciplina u IDIZ-u nisu moglibiti oslonac specijaliziranom ruralnosociologijskom časopisu. U četvrtome dijelu suprikazani koncepcija nove serije i njezino ostvarivanje kao način prevladavanja krizečasopisa, uređivačka politika, promjene u uredništvu i savjetu, te mijenjanje profilačasopisa, koje je 2006. godine okončano i promjenom naslova. Koncepcija nove serijenastala je izmjenama i dopunama izvorne misije časopisa (1963.), koje omogućujusuradnju istraživačkog potencijala IDIZ-a i drugih suradnika iz sociologije i srodnihznanstvenih polja i disciplina čijim su predmetom društveni, kulturni i gospodarskirazvoj s težištem na istraživanju seljaštva, sela, grada i društvenih procesa u prostoru,agroekologije, zaštite rurisa, rurizma i bioetike. Profil nove serije je definiranproblemski, a Sociologija sela ostala primarni znanstveni časopis iste strukture priloga(rubrika) i dinamike izlaženja.Peti dio je posvećen postignućima časopisa, prvenstveno najvrijednijim radovima, kojisu odredili profil nove serije. Otvarajući se znanstvenoj produkciji iz drugih znanstvenihpolja i disciplina (prvo o ruralno-urbanom kontinuumu, mreži naselja i društvenimprocesima u prostoru, a potom socioreligijskim i ostalim istraživanjima u IDIZ-u),inozemnim autorima, te nadoknadivši kašnjenje, časopis je uglavnom prevladao krizu.Autor je po vrsnoći izdvojio 12 priloga domaćih autora i devet tematskih brojevameđu kojima osobito mjesto zauzima jubilarni broj u povodu 40 godina kontinuiranogizlaženja ovog prvog hrvatskog sociologijskog časopisa naslovljen „Oni koji su stvaraliSociologiju sela“. Po teorijsko-metodologijskoj recentnosti i utemeljenosti izdvajaju seradovi objavljeni u tematskim brojevima o selu u tranziciji, mreži naselja i umreženom društvu, otočanima i otočnim zajednicama te poljoprivrednom zadrugarstvu.Zahvaljujući visokom udjelu znanstvenih radova (šest desetina), i to onih proizišlihiz iskustvenih istraživanja hrvatskog društva i sela, Sociologija sela ima status vrsne ividljive periodične publikacije u svjetskoj znanstvenoj zajednici - radovi objavljeni unjoj referirani su u osam svjetskih baza i banaka podataka.The third publication phase of the new Rural Sociology series (1998-2005) ispresented in five parts. In the first part the author examines the socio-economiccontext: changes and problems in the agrarian and social structure caused byprivatization based on the doctrine of neoliberal capitalism, refeudalization ofvillage and agriculture, war consequences, intense social stratification and 40% fallin agricultural production, compared to 1988 and 1989. In the second part theauthor presents the crisis and implosion of the oldest Croatian infrastructure unit forrural sociological research and two research projects about the Croatian village intransition, settlement network and network society done in the Institute for SocialResearch in Zagreb. The third part is about the journal’s logistics. Systematic ruralsociological research lost all financial support in the last decade of 20th centurywhich caused the final exodus of researchers. Along with the desintegration of therural sociology school in Zagreb, it meant the loss of institutional support for thescientific rural sociology periodical. The highest price of the wrong policy was paid:human capital was squandered and the research field lost. The Institute’s otherresearch teams could not back up the very specialized journal of rural sociology.The fourth part of the presentation deals with the new concept of overcoming thecrisis, editorial policy, changes in the Board and Council and the new profile of thejournal which eventually changed its name in 2006. The original concept from 1963was broadened and it comprised the cooperation of the Institute’s research potentialwith contributions from sociology and other similar disciplines whose primaryinterest was social, economic and cultural development, based on rural, urban andspatial research, agroecology, protection of ruralism and bioethics. The journal’sprofile was defined as problem-solving and Rural Sociology remained the primaryscholarly journal with the same structure and publication frequency.The fifth part is dedicated to the journal’s achievements, primarily its mostvaluable works which defined the profile of the new series. The journal basicallyovercame the crisis and made up for the lost time, money and human potential byopening up to contributions from other scientific disciplines (first about the ruralurbancontinuum, settlement network and social processes in space, then aboutreligious and other research in the Institute), and to foreign authors. Because oftheir excellence the author singles out 12 contributions by home authors and 9thematic issues among which stands out the jubilee issue for the 40th anniversaryof the continued publication of the first Croatian sociology journal. It was entitled“People who created Rural Sociology“. Other special issues with their recent andwell-founded theories and methodology include village in transition, network ofsettlements and network society, islanders and island communities and agriculturalcooperatives. Due to a large number of scientific works (six out of ten), based on experimental research of the Croatian society and village, Rural Sociology is avaluable and visible publication in the world scholarly community; there is referenceto works published in it in eight world data banks
