The article scientifically examined the folklore situation in the environment where Abai was born and raised. After all, this was a period when the integrity of the steppe folklore was not violated, the line of oral traditions was not interrupted. Therefore, the attentiveness and enthusiasm of Abai, who grew up listening to the stories of poets, storytellers and orators on his land, influenced his future work. As the origins of the formation of Abai's personality, legends, stories and the latest information about his distant great-grandfather, Ygyzbay, and great-grandfather, Uskenbay, about his father Kunanbay and about his maternal uncle Tontai, who remained in the memory of the people with funny stories, were found, as well as the significance of oratory and folklore in the life of the country for this period is revealed.
