The article deals with some aspects of the Pamphylian sound system as attested by an inscription from Syllio dating from the fourth century B. C. It begins by discussing the reasons for the sporadic palatalisation of u, the importance of the transition ερ > αρ to the dialectal determination of Pamphylian, and the reasons for the nonmarking of aspiration in some words. Further issues discussed in the article are the interpretation of the graphemes ϝ, W, ψ and υh, and the etymology of the word διϝια
