Classicist Veselin Čajkanović (1881–1946) was one of the victims of the Court of Honour at the University of Belgrade. After graduation in 1903 he studied in Leipzig and Munich (1903–1907), where he obtained his doctorate with Krumbacher; afterwards, he was professor of Latin in Belgrade, member of the Serbian Royal Academy of Science, and Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy with several terms of office. His sin in the eyes of the Communists was threefold: he was an intellectual, his area of research was religion and mythology, and he had held a position of power during the occupation. Accusations against him were fabricated or invented, and he was expelled from the University in 1945, his civil rights taken away. He died in 1946
