This paper discusses the issue of the language elements coming from sport professiolects which have been recorded by the Polish Academy of Sciences Great Dictionary of Polish (WSJP PAN) and labelled as sport. pot. (sport coll.). The author ponders on the reasons why the sport elements which were restricted to professional communication until a point in time are now entering the resource of a larger group of Polish language users and general dictionaries of Polish.Keywords: language of sport – lexicography – professiolect – sociolect – professionalism
