The article examines one of the significant problems of the penitentiary system in Russia — the resocialization of women sentenced to imprisonment. The main factors that have a negative impact on prisoners and are indicative of serious gaps in the Federal Service for Execution of Punishment system are considered. Comparative statistics of crime in Russia and foreign countries are presented. Recommendations were made for improving the system of correctional institutions. The positive experience of Norway, Canada and Finland in the field of resocialization of women prisoners is also presented, the principles of which could be implemented in Russia.
