The article deals with the problems of the category of informativity of fictional texts, types of information, and the cognitive principles of distributing information in the text. The cognitive principles of iconicity, relevance, linguistic economy and redundancy, their verbalization in the fictional text are being discussed. The fictional text is characterized by two opposite tendencies. On the one hand, it tends to linguistic economy, on the other — to linguistic redundancy; both tendencies being equally important for the category of informativity.
