These disturbing proverbs, taken from different areas of the world, indicate that wife-beating (domestic violence) is not a new or a culturally delimited phenomenon. Rather, the practice seems to have been considered an acceptable,even a desirable method of solving marital problems for thousands of years. Allhough the term "domestic violence" is new. the practice is ancient .
