In this paper, the results of the experimental 5-years experimental course "Bowels of the earth" for students in schools in Kiev are presented. Classification of students according to the degree of teaching effectiveness was carried out. The problems in the conduct of the educational process are described.The statistics of students' success and their familiarity with geology as a function of training time are analyzed. A direct correlation was established between the duration of the course and the success of students, and the number of applicants to higher educational geological institutions
