Abstract. Pathologic transrotation of the pregnant uterus, a fairly common disorder in veterinary medicine, is extremely rare in the human. Since Virchow (1) described the first documented case in 1863, only 113 cases have been found in the literature. A rotation exceeding 45° of the uterus about its radial axis is considered pathologic, thus excluding the slight dextrorotation of the uterus which occurs in 80% of all pregnancies.
