Text linguistics is quite a new academic discipline, which developed at the turn of the 21 century. At first the object of its study was larger texts – novels, novelettes, and short stories. Short type texts have only recently become the object of study of text linguistics. One of them is jokes, which were previously studied as a type of comic texts. Later, attention of researchers was drawn to their cultural conditioning and the means of explication of their cultural component. It was a result of understanding that all texts are culturally conditioned. Then it was to be expected that typical characters in different cultural communities are to be different. Quite unexpectedly, though, the character of a dumb blonde is used in many different cultures. The research below is dedicated to the analysis of this character in German jokes. The author also falls back on the studies of this stereotype in other cultures in order to find out the time and roots of its origin.
