The article actualizes the study of the interdependence of tradition and improvisation in the song folklore of the Greben Cossacks. On the examples of authentic song samples, the specificity of the song tradition of the Greben Cossacks and the interdependence of tradition and improvisation, which is characterized by the stability of the tradition, which does not exclude variability and improvisation, are revealed.
