Management of BRCA1 Mutation Carrier with Breast Cancer BRCA1 gene mutation carriers face high lifetime risk of breast cancer therefore specific diagnostic features should be considered and individualized treatment strategies should be applied. For BRCA1 mutation carriers with already developed breast cancer, extensive surgery - bilateral mastectomy - could be indicated due to the cancer risk in the contralateral breast.
