The use of a small‐seeded, fertility‐restoring pollinator line, and a normal‐seeded, male‐sterile female parent line for production of hybrid wheat seed by a Bulk Method is suggested. The difference in seed size would enable pure hybrid seed to be graded from bulk harvested seed lots. The feasibility of using the sphaerococcum gene to obtain the required seed size characteristic in pollinator lines is being studied.
