In the most recent mathematics programs for Costarrican high schools, probability and statistics contents were included, as well as a new methodology for dealing with such topics, in which the student is the protagonist in this approach, since he is expected to discover the knowledge from the solution oproblem situation that is proposed. It is important therefore that the teacher has theoretical ideas about how a student thinks once faced with a situation. Specifically, some ideas of the Theory of Conceptual Fields explained in the context of probability and statistics are given. This work has been done in order to comment on the changes that have been introduced in high school programs and analyze the results in 2016 − 2017 national tests related to these stochastic topics, generating theoretical knowledge about how a student should proceed in a problem situation. We will see that the results in national tests on these issues are not the desired in general, so it is important to know proposals that contribute to the improvement of this problem, and that is why some current works developed in Costa Rica on the didactics of probability and statistics are discussed.
