This paper aims at presenting a reflection on amanuscript of autobiographical nature left by Abel/Adelaide HerculineBarbin, someone with a hermaphroditic condition who was born in1838 and committed suicide at the age of thirty. Following the trail ofBarbin’s text, we will consider its influence as an autobiographicaldocument in which literary and mythical representations are presentand preserved. This undertaking is an attempt to conduct a dialoguebetween myths and text (Barbin’s manuscript). KEYWORDS: autobiography; Herculine Barbin; hermaphrodite;myth.
