The article presents the political thought of the most important Polish conservative thinkers of the nineteenth century, starting with Józef Kalasanty Szaniawski and Józef Gołuchowski, through the so-called Kraków circle (Antoni Zygmunt Helcel, Paweł Popiel, Maurycy Mann), ending with Stańczycy political faction. The author devotes the most attention to the latter, focusing not only on the presentation of the faction’s political assumptions, but also on the phenomenon of this group, the name of which later became a synonym for the entire nineteenth-century Galician conservatism.
