The paper investigates Pascal’s notion of the will in detail. The main question of the study concerns Pascal’s relation to the Aristotelian legacy of relating reason to the will, a legacy that had been pursued by philosophers up until Pascal. The paper claims that Pascal breaks away from this tradition when he adopts the idea of the order of the heart and relates the notion of the will to that of love.
