The 100th anniversary of the International Labour Organization (ILO) allows us to reflect about its past, present and future. Specifically, this paper provides the outstanding contribution done by the ILO related to the seafarer's work. It must be enphasized that the Organization has been able to draw up conventions and recomendations to established minimum working and living standards for all seafarers, dignifing the work in the maritime labour sector. Furthermore, the ILO has adapted its legal instruments to be amended under an accelerate procedure to be updated to the changes in this specific sector. Moreover, the Organization has established an effective system to ensure the enforcement of their conventions based on controls and inspections of the flag and port States.
