The purpose of this study was to explore, through conversations with graduates of the School of Family and Nutritional Sciences at the University of British Co lumbia, the sources and nature of influences placed upon these individuals as they first anticipated their careers, chose to major in the field of home economics, and now practice as professionals. By uncovering questions, this study has theo retical importance in that it contributes to the growing body of knowledge about women and perspectives on their education and work. It has practical implica tions for the recruitment, education, and professional development of home economists and other women in female‐majority fields.
