Coagulase activation of prothrombin by staphylococcus induces the formation of fibrin deposition that facilitates the establishment of infection byStaphylococcus species. Coagulase activity is a key characteristic ofStaphylococcus pseudintermedius ; however, no coagulase gene or associated protein has been studied to characterize this activity.
