Scores of forty‐seven neurotic patients on a repression‐sensitization scale, used as a measure of denial‐admission, were compared with their scores on the N and E scales of the Maudsley Personality Inventory (MPI) to test the hypothesis that the MPI scales are biased against those who tend to admit deviant personality features. The results support the hypothesis, and it is suggested that the N scale can have little value as a screening instrument.
