Students with a strong career orientation toward business are realizing that foreign language skills are a desirable asset in seeking employment. Before committing several years of study to acquiring a foreign language, they may seek measures of the economic activity and population distribution of world languages as well as information on the extent of possibilities for trade abroad in various languages. This paper presents an analysis of the population distribution and Gross National Product per capita of leading world languages and reviews briefly several readily available reports on world trade.
