A bstract — Examination of bitewing radiographs of children aged 15 years attending the clinics of the University of Queensland Dental School in 1970‐74 and 1978‐80 has revealed a decrease in frequency of posterior proximal smooth surface caries during the ten‐year period. Sound unrestored surfaces constituted about three‐fifths of all readable surfaces in the younger group compared with about two‐fifths in the older group.
