A new species, Lasianthus chowdheryi Karthig., Jayanthi & Sumathi (Rubiaceae), growing in the evergreen forest of Rutland Island in the Andaman and Nicobar archipelago is described. The new species is allied to L. attenuatus Jack, but differs by having tetramerous flowers, smaller corolla tube and by the presence of a horny appendage on the calyx and corolla apices. Detailed description and illustration of this new taxon are provided.
