With PUBMED and other search engines scanning scientific literature, the chances of your publication being seen by interested potential readers is vastly improved. You should only consider journals that are listed on PUBMED and other major search engines. The prestige of the journal is usually judged from the Impact factor. The impact factor evaluates the number of citations per article over 2 years and gives an indication of the scientific impact of the journal. There are other measures of impact. but this is the most popular one. Generally you want to select a journal with high impact factor, where you can reasonably expect your paper to be considered.
