Summary Classification of uveitis is important for diagnostic reasons. The first step in developing a differential diagnosis for patients with an intraocular inflammation is to classify the uveitis in detail. Proper classification is also essential if one is to avoid confusion and misinterpretation among multiple ophthalmologists caring for a given patient. Different types of classification are used: The anatomic classification should not be confused or overlap with the etiologic classification. Both classifications are required and important, but they are distinct and different.
