The evidence on which the " ESCRS Guidelines on Endophthalmitis prophylaxis following cataract surgery (2013) " is based will be presented. This comprises studies from Sweden, Spain, France, South Africa, Asia, North America and Japan showing a reduction in infection rates reducing by factors of 3 ‐ 22 fold when the intracameral route was introduced.
