Abstract The members of the antigen‐presenting cell family are known under many names, such as macrophages, Langerhans cells, dendritic cells and monocytes. They can be found in all ocular tissues, and depending on their activation state and characteristics, these cells can either stimulate or inhibit immune responses. Furthermore, macrophages may play a role in wound healing or angiogesis. These differential roles will be illustrated by showing their function in ocular tumors and in corneal diseases.
