The reactions of individual psychotherapy patients and colleagues to the first pregnancy of the author are discussed within the framework of the limited literature avail‐able. The associations to the pregnancy theme in both staff groups and therapy groups are discussed. The view is put forward that evident avoidance of this area of clinical observation in the literature is linked to a need to defend an outdated view of analytic neutrality.
