This special issue of the Journal contains a selection of research articles and reviews based on lectures presented at the 21st Conference of the Inter‐American Photochemical Society (I‐APS), which took place in Mendoza, Argentina, on May 2011. The topics relate to novel applications of photochemistry in the study and/or synthesis of novel materials, photochemistry and the environment, new tools for biophysical studies and photobiology studies.
