— The recent publication of the book From Farriery to Veterinary Medicine, which deals with the plan of Vial de St. Bel, the French veterinarian, for the establishment of a veterinary teaching school in England has stimulated a closer examination of the roots of veterinary education in the British Isles. This book is reviewed and discussed in the light of the information available which led to the establishment of the London (later the Royal) Veterinary College.
