Research Summary: My colleagues and I are working to develop a science of prevention through reducing risk and enhancing social development and though rigorous testing of preventive interventions. We have shown that adolescent health and behavior problems can be prevented through a social development approach in a variety of settings. Policy Implications: In the United States, we now have the tools and prevention programs that could make a significant impact on youth development. The research base for prevention policy and practice has grown over the last three decades to the point that exponential growth in professionalism and effective practice are now a wise and cost‐effective public and private investment.
