Dubai has agreed to import 400 mn cfd of LNG from Qatar in what will be the world's shortest LNG route, a distance of just 200 miles. Liquefied natural gas is not normally considered economic over distances of less than 600 miles owing to the large capital investment required in terminals and ships. The emirate is reported to be paying over $8 per mn BTU in a region where the transfer price of gas is usually around $1 per mn BTU.
