The announcement by Qatar Petroleum that it is to postpone three gas‐to‐liquids (GTL) developments is raising a number of questions over several other GTL plants. A sharp rise in world steel prices has contributed to an increase in development costs in a number of cases. There have also been changes to some gas field development plans, resulting in the allocation of the gas to competing uses.
