SUMMARY Conditions for obtaining reproducible estimates of caffeoylquinic acids in carrot seedlings, by fluorescence intensity determined using epifluorescent microscopy were investigated. The optimum germination conditions for the test were established as 9–10 days at 20 °C. Factors such as the presence of microflora on seed material and the environment of the seed during production were found to influence the mean radicle fluorescence.
