SUMMARY Kinetin treatment of localized areas of detached radish cotyledonary leaves was shown: (a) to defer the dry weight and chlorophyll declines that usually occur after leaf detachment; and (b) to promote the re‐distribution of phosphorus towards treated regions. These responses, which were most pronounced in leaves taken from 12‐day‐old plants, were much reduced in the light and were not found under anaerobic conditions. Kinetin‐induced responses were also inhibited in leaves pretreated with actinomycin D and ribonuclease.
