Old alfalfa ( Medicago sativa L.) seeds which had been stored for 23 years at ordinary temperature under sealed‐up conditions were tested for germinability and seedling establishment. Five percent of seeds germinated on soil, and many of the germinated seedlings grew to a state of establishment. The results present evidence for the high ability of alfalfa seeds to maintain viability and vigor.
