Typical mid‐gut carcinoids from 18 patients without endocrine syndromes were examined for the presence of somatostatin‐immunoreactive tumour cells. Positively stained cells were found in six tumours (33%), but they did not constitute the majority cell population in any of the cases. The results further emphasize the multihormonal nature of mid‐gut carcinoid tumours.
