Summary Storage iron was estimated in the livers and kidneys of 12 premature and 12 mature stillborn infants. In both organs, the total storage iron content more than doubled during the last weeks of gestation. There was a significant positive correlation between the level of storage iron in these organs and the birth weight and gestational age of the infant.
