Some terms, universally used in botany and zoology, are rather vaguely defined, if at all, and have in common use become to such an extent ambiguous, that they need recurrent re‐definitions to avoid confusion. The terms here considered are: variation‐variability‐variousness; cline; deme ; and ecotype.
