The anatomic findings in two members of a family with erythrocytosis due to the presence of an abnormal haemoglobin, Hb Malmö, are described. Both had erythrocytosis and pulmonary fibrosis with honeycombing. Both also developed anaplastic pulmonary carcinomas with metastases. Family studies have revealed that both the abnormal Hb and the pulmonary disease are hereditary and caused by separate genes. The carcinomas most probably are secondary to the pulmonary fibrosis. Interesting was the fact that both tumours were of the same histological type.
