Serum from a patient with myeloma was found to contain a pathological protein of α 1 ‐mobility. Laboratory studies including immunological analysis, Sephadex filtration and heat denaturation revealed that the unusual serum protein was a Bence‐Jones protein of antigenic type L identical with the excreted urinary protein.
