A 69‐year‐old male patient underwent double‐patch repair for a postinfarction ventricular septal defect (VSD). He returned five months later with an abscess in the area of a postoperative hematoma between the patch and the left ventricle. The abscess was drained and the ventricles were successfully reconstructed. Intracardiac hematoma after double‐patch repair of postinfarction VSD should be closely followed up and, if there are any infection signs, aggressive surgical management should be performed.   (J Card Surg 2010;25:676‐679)
