Summary: Two cases of carcinoid tumour of the appendix discovered at the time of abdominal hysterectomy are reported. Aspects of the carcinoid syndrome relevant to the gynaecologist are discussed with reference to the value of routine elective appendicectomy during abdominal surgery.
