Bright blue monoazo disperse dyes have been prepared by coupling diazonium salts derived from 2‐amino‐5‐nitrothiazoles on to 3‐acylamino‐ N,N ‐dialkylaniline based coupling components. Colour–constitution relationships of the dyes in solution and on polyester have been examined in terms of the electronic and steric substituent effects. Also the solution spectral and colorimetric data have been compared.
