Ultrasound has been used in the dyeing of polyester fibres with disperse dyes at low temperature, and results compared with those achievable in conventional dyeing at the boil using a carrier. Dyeings were enhanced in presence of carrier and by pre‐swelling the fibres, although the results obtained were not generally as good as those that can be obtained in conventional high‐temperature processes. Taking into account the energy conservation aspect, ultrasound appears to be a promising technique for dyeing.
