Abstract A reference in a recent publication points to strong positive error‐correlations for neighbouring points in stereocomparator measures. An examination of modern Ordnance Survey observations shows that the correlations now present are of a residual and erratic nature, and are therefore not such that they can be taken into account conveniently in any scheme of statistical control. Some non‐physical sources of correlation are noted in the data‐reduction processes.
